Children's Literature Roundtables are truly wonderful, and so are young teachers. Colleen Eckardt and Bridget Hearsey, two new teachers in the Victoria district, gave a fabulous presentation at our last Roundtable on using literature to inspire young readers. They hauled in a huge stack of books (including some of my all time favourites as well as some I hadn't heard of previously) and spoke about how they can be used in various learning environmentst. A total bonus was that they turned us all on to a very cool article by Jon Schiska that you just have to read if you have ever stumbled over someone's name. It is a characteristic piece that no self-respecting Schiska fan will want to miss. Here is the link. More reviews coming. I promise. Sheryl
I totally loved Philip Pullman's Dark Materials Trilogy. Now The Golden Compass is coming out in as a film, and staring one of my favourite actors, Nicole Kidman. I can hardly wait!
